Do you want to learn to code and wonder which coding education platform you should choose? Is Codeacademy good?
Don’t worry, in this article, we are going to introduce Codecademy, how does it work, whether it is worth paying for Codecademy Pro, and more.
Without further ado, let’s dive in.
What is Codecademy?
Codecademy is a free learning platform for students to practice coding while learning the structure and basics of coding in different programming languages: Java, Beautiful Soup-Python Library, and Python (pandas-Python library, SQL, C#, C++, Swift, Go, JavaScript (jQuery, React.js, AngularJS), and Sass.

Besides, there are markup languages such as CSS and HTML.
The site allows new developers to learn new programming languages and technologies. It offers programmers a platform to learn how to code through coding practice while learning the structure and basics of coding.
The Company initially began as a Columbia University programming club and was envisioned by Zach Sims and his colleague Ryan Bubinski in August 2021. Zach drooped out of the University of Colombia to pay attention to starting a venture. Babinski went further with his education to graduate in 2011 from Columbia.
The company has its headquarters in New York City and raised $2.5 million in the first series in the October 2011 funding, and later in June 2012, it raised an additional $10 million. Today, it has over 45 million members learning how to code in various programming languages.
How does Codecademy work?
As a new student, you will be required to sign in using your email and create a password. Once that is accomplished, you can now log in, and you’ll have a chance to choose the programming language you want, may it be JavaScript, Java, Python, Ruby, or any of the 12 programming languages taught.
Once you’re in the system, you will briefly get introduced to the Codecademy interface. Here, you can select your level of learning from the beginner, intermediate or advanced level. You will then be prompted to choose the topic you want to learn.
For instance, if you choose to learn the advanced level, then you’ll be presented with three different learning methods: one that allows the user to create a project from scratch, a second that lets the user modify an existing project, and a third that lets the user edit a tutorial.
How much does Codecademy cost?
Codecademy is not only a reliable but also affordable code learning platform. It is quite cheap. Currently, the Basic Codecademy level costs $0, while the Pro membership subscription costs $20.
Although the basic access to the site is free, the website’s Pro access comes with a small subscription, $ 20 per month ($240 per annum paid once). The Pro subscription gives the learner access to practical projects and step-by-step guidance.
Does Codecademy give students discount? Of course, yes, all eligible college students have a chance of joining Codecademy Pro Student. It is a yearly membership subscription with 35% off the normal membership price.
This means that college students who have a chance to sign up for a subsidized Student Pro membership go for $150 per year, which is much cheaper compared to the normal membership subscription of $240 per year.
Is Codecademy Pro worth it?
Of course, yes! Only the subscribed members have access to Codecademy Pro content, feedback, quizzes, real-world projects, additional community support, and a mobile app.
Fortunately, new Codecademy accounts are qualified to get a free sample of Codecademy Pro to test for the next seven days of a new membership.
Remember, you will be required to have a valid debit or credit card to receive this free trial. The account will be changed by the end of the trial period, i.e.7 days.
Once the free trial period is over, you will be required to pay for the Pro subscription. If you’re not in a position to pay immediately after your expiry of the trial period, the progress you have made so far won’t be lost.
However, your paths, quizzes, and projects will be temporarily unavailable until you pay for the subscription to upgrade your account. We highly recommend you save your projects on your computer or push them to GitHub.
Does Codecademy Pro offer a Career path? Certainly! For your information, Codecademy offers well-structured curriculum roadmaps such as Career Paths.
These career paths aim to guide the student to gain the core skills of Data Science, Computer Science, and Web Development alone, focusing on shorter-term goals and specialized coding skills.
Summary
Sign up for the free Codecademy course if you’re a beginner or a Codecademy Pro membership and get a chance to learn a wide range of programming languages from experts.
